Benson Radiology’s New Open Bore MRI Service – Morphett Vale

Benson Radiology has commenced MRI services at its 115 Main South Road, Morphett Vale Branch with the installation of South Australia’s first ultra-short, 70cm wide bore MRI scanner.

Benson Radiology successfully tendered to the Federal Government for the Medicare-eligible MRI service, announced by The Hon Nicola Roxon, The Minister for Health and Ageing and the Local Federal MP, Ms Amanda Rishworth, Member for Kingston, earlier this year.

The scanner provides an opportunity to patients who have previously struggled with the “tunnel” of conventional scanners. The ultra short length of the scanner allows the majority of patients to complete their scan with their head outside the scanner. The wide diameter of the tunnel is designed to accommodate larger patients while also providing additional comfort for all patients. The number of patient’s unable to complete their scan is expected to fall by over 80%.

The first picture ceiling in a medical facility in South Australia has also been installed to create a relaxing atmosphere for patients during their scanning.

All Medicare-eligible patients will be bulk billed.

Hours of operation are 7.30am to 7.30pm Monday to Friday and 8.30am to 12.30pm on Saturdays.
